A 55-year-old in North Bay has been charged with threatening to cause death or bodily harm in connection with an incident Oct. 15 in the city.

A 19-year-old has also been charged with weapons offences after police located a handgun and ammunition.

The case began Tuesday when North Bay police received a report about threats allegedly made by the 55-year-old suspect against a victim.

"On Oct. 16 … members of the North Bay Police Service, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police tactical response unit, executed a search warrant at a residence belonging to the accused," North Bay police said in a news release Thursday.

"Searches by police resulted in the seizure of a handgun and accompanying ammunition."

Later in the day, the 19-year-old was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon and knowledge of the unauthorized possession of a weapon.

The 55-year-old was charged with the same offences, as well as making threats and violating a release order.

The accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

"The North Bay Police Service would like to thank the Ontario Provincial Police for their continued partnership and support in incidents such as these," police said.

"By working together, we help make our community safer."
