“Centrally located near the North Bay and Dionne Quints museums, the multi-use courts, the upcoming all-wheel park and the soon-to-be reconstructed Main Street, the Rotary Playground is a fantastic new amenity that adds to the vibrancy of the Downtown Waterfront,” said Mayor Peter Chirico, in a news release.

“We are grateful to MPP Fedeli and the province of Ontario for their support, as well as to the Rotary Clubs of North Bay and North Bay-Nipissing for their generous contribution.”

Guided by consultations from the City Parks Master Plan and the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan, the $1.2 million playground project received $437,693 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and $110,000 from the Rotary Clubs.

“Through targeted NOHFC investments, our government is building strong, connected and prosperous communities in North Bay and across Nipissing,” said MPP Vic Fedeli.

“We are proud to support municipal partners on projects that build vibrant recreational amenities that enhance the quality of life for families living in North Bay.”

The new nautical-themed playground features two free-standing play structures – a boat and a lighthouse – along with an accessible rubber safety surface, sensory play center, seating areas, lighting and landscaping.

“We’re thrilled to open the new Rotary playground, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing sponsors,” said Rotary spokesman Bill Hagborg.

“It’s a space where families and kids can have fun and connect. We’re pleased to contribute to the enhancement of the Downtown Waterfront.”

Hagborg added Rotary Club members are excited to see how the playground is already being enjoyed.

The playground is the latest activity-related amenity to be added to the area – which includes a splash pad and nearby multi-use courts.

Construction continues on the new all-wheel park behind the multi-use courts.
