A month-long drug investigation in North Bay resulted in the arrest of a suspect as they got into a rideshare vehicle, police said Friday.

The 53-year-old suspect from North Bay was arrested Feb. 29 and charged with trafficking and other offences.

“As a result of the investigation, over $173,000 in drugs and cash were seized,” North Bay police said in a news release.

The street crime unit led the drug trafficking investigation, which began in January.

“On Feb. 29, the accused was observed getting into a rideshare vehicle after exiting a residence,” the release said.

“A traffic stop was conducted on High Street in North Bay and as a result, the accused was identified and arrested. A search of the accused revealed a large quantity of cocaine, fentanyl and Canadian currency.”

Seized was 376.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, 309.6 grams of suspected cocaine and $4,530 in cash.

“The estimated street value of the drugs and cash seized is approximately $173,597,” police said.

The accused is charged with trafficking offences and with possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
