The addictions treatment centre on Lakeshore Drive in North Bay is set to be delayed once again, according to Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

Construction continues at the future site of the Northern Ontario Addiction Treatment Centre of Excellence, located at the former Farquhar Chrysler Dealership on Lakeshore Drive in North Bay. Nov. 7/23 (File photo/Eric Taschner/CTV News Northern Ontario)Announced in February 2022, the Ontario Government pledged almost $7 million to have it built that summer.

The opening was then pushed back to summer 2023 – later further complications arose causing further delays.

In November 2023, Ontario’s Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo toured the site and said the project would be completed in January 2024.

Fedeli recently gave CTV News an update on the project.

“Of course, work is being done on the addictions centre every day,” said Nipissing’s MPP.

“I know they are waiting for a final approval from the Ministry of Environment. It is still scheduled to open this spring.”

Once open, the clinic will have 53 addiction treatment beds to address the ongoing mental health and addiction crisis in the region.

Canadore College is set to take the lead at the centre and will work to train its staff.

The college said a more comprehensive update about the status of the treatment centre will be provided soon.
