Sault Ste. Marie’s new skating path in Clergue Park, near the waterfront, is open and it's being enjoyed by many people.
There are snacks and hot drinks, and the city is thinking about staging some community events at the site.
The new kilometre-long skating trail has been busy since it opened in late December.
When asked what they thought of it, some skaters told CTV News:
"I think it's a great rink. It's like a trail you can go around and around."
"It’s pretty fun and it's pretty smooth too."
"Yeah, it's a great idea. They should do more of it downtown and maybe they should extend it out further along the water. I was imagining skating to work sometime."
"I think it's great to have because it encourages people to get out and be active. And I think it's also great they have the evening bonfires coming up, we're really looking forward to that. Great job Sault Ste. Marie!"
The new skate trail is a pilot project, but city officials say more than 3,000 people have skated on the trail in the last four days alone, and are planning to add programming soon.
"We're going to be starting our bonfire nights on Friday and Saturday. They're going to start at 5:30 to 9:30, and we'll have a concession set up selling s’mores kits, hot chocolate, hot apple cider.” said Virginia McLeod, of City of Sault Ste. Marie.
She says opening the skating trail during the holiday break was perfect timing because many people are off work to spend with their families.
The rink is open noon to 10 pm during the week and 10 to 10 on the weekend.
