The Northern Ontario School of Medicine has a new dean.

Doctor Sarita Verma replaces Doctor Roger Strasser who has been with the school of medicine for the past fifteen years.

Dr. Verma is only the second dean at the Ramsey Lake Road learning institution, officially taking over July 1.

She says she plans to create a culture in which students are adaptive to new technologies in the field of medicine.

Dr. Verma also likes the spinoffs the school brings to the community

“You bring economic stability to your community,  if you have a medical school in your midst. You’re generating economy for your population and a healthy population means a wealthy population,” said Dr. Verma

Dr. Verma says the school’s strategic plan will be updated to make it even more accessible to northern students and communities.

Doctor Verma becomes  only the third female medical school dean in the country.
