One person is dead following a fatal crash on Highway 17 near Mattawa.
Police say an eastbound SUV collided with a westbound pickup truck on Monday afternoon.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the pickup truck sustained no injuries
On Tuesday afternoon, the Ontario Provincial Police released the name of the deceased.
Mirjana Knezevic, 64, was killed in the collision. Knezevic was from Algonquin Highlands Township.
The stretch of highway between between Rutherglen and Highway 630 was closed for about six hours.
“The volunteers who re-routed the traffic around the unfortunate accident did a wonderful job directing people through the back roads,” said Sandy McNamara, who drove through the detour that was set up.
“It was extremely well organized. It was a very lengthy detour. Vehicles blocked roads they did not want you driving, as you would have popped out between Rutherglen and 630.”
