The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a 42-year-old man died Friday following a medical incident.

“(SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 42-year-old man yesterday in North Bay,” the SIU said in a news release Saturday.

“One investigator and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.”

The man was transported from the North Bay Jail to the cell block at the courthouse on Friday morning according to police.

“Later in the day, the man suffered a medical incident,” said the SIU.

“He was provided with medical care and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”

In Ontario, when someone dies while in police custody, the SIU is automatically called in to investigate.

The SIU said the investigation is ongoing.
