City officials will present an update to Elliot Lake’s community improvement plan.

The plan is intended to encourage growth in the residential sector to attract development firms and investors.

Officials told CTV News that the incentives are designed to meet changing demographics in the city and address a housing shortage.

“We do that through creation of housing, development of housing, as well as provide incentives for businesses who cannot perhaps operate as affordably or as effectively in southern Ontario due to high costs, to come to northern Ontario," said the city’s manager of Economic Development, Steve Antunes.

Elliot Lake’s city council meeting begins at 6 p.m. on May 27.
