There have been some newcomers to northern Ontario on the first day of the New Year.

Here's a quick rundown of the New Year’s babies born in the major hospitals in our region:

North Bay's hospital reports its first baby of the year was Gabrielle Bourgoin, who arrived at 2:12 am, weighing six pounds four ounces. The parents are Julie and Claude Bourgoin of Sturgeon Falls.

In Sudbury, Renee Jacques and Sam Peters braved a New Year’s Eve snow storm to make it to the hospital.

They welcomed little Edward at 3:44 am.

He has a big brother named William, and his parents are hoping to have more.

"Hopefully for four, we'll see how it goes. Right now, we're really happy with William and Edward. We were hoping for a 2019 baby, so he just made it in, and nice and healthy, so that's all that really matters." said Jacques.

Over in Sault Ste. Marie, Dawson Gregory Leonard Campbell was born just before 10 am and is the first son for parents, Hailey Leonard and Nathan Campbell.  The new mom spent nearly 12 hours in labour, but says it wasn't that bad.

"He decided to show is face at 9:56, this morning. It was just all exciting and it all went well. It was not bad at all." said Leonard.

And in Timmins, the first baby of 2019, also checked in just before 10 am, was a girl named Oaklyn.

She is the second child for parents Cindy and Marc Dupere.
