Share

Ashley Bacon is a seasoned journalist who has returned to Canadian soil after spending the last six years in Australia and is now trading in her surfboard for a snowboard as she takes on her new role with CTV News Northern Ontario.

Bacon joins the team as a video journalist and weekend anchor based in Sudbury.

She is from Toronto and holds a bachelor's degree in history and film studies from Wilfrid Laurier University and a graduate diploma in broadcast journalism from Seneca College.

Bacon's said her internship with an annual film festival in Sarasota, Fla., sparked her interest in working in journalism.

She started her media career at a radio station in Peace River, Alta in 2013, and transitioned to television in Thunder Bay the next year.

Hundreds of people commented on a social media post Friday announcing her arrival.

Her first northern Ontario newscast was Monday at 11:30 p.m.

She will also be anchoring the CTV News Northern Ontario late newscast Tuesday and Wednesday nights before her regular weekend anchor shifts begin Oct. 22.
