A large scale medical review, involving a former Timmins doctor, concluded in northern British Columbia this week.

The review, found that Dr. Claude Vezina, the former head of medical imaging at the Timmins and District Hospital, made mistakes in more than 10% of around 8,000 medical images read.

The scans applied to more than 5,000 patients, but the hospital says none of the misread medical documents needed to be re-done

“Now that we have the results of the quality review, those will be considered by our Northern Health Medical Advisory Committee and that body will make recommendations to our board regarding the future of the radiologist,” said Eryn Collins of Northern Health.

Vezina started a position at Memorial Mills Hospital in Terrace, B.C. last November.

He’s currently on voluntary leave, but Northern Health said it plans to review that status.
