Share

A Mattawa driver was travelling more than 145 km/h on Highway 17 last week, police say.

On Sept. 29, members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment charged a 38-year-old driver from Mattawa with stunt driving on Highway 17 east of the city in Papineau-Cameron Township.

"(Officers) stopped a grey automobile carrying three occupants," said police in a social media post.

“(The vehicle) was traveling 145 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.”

In addition to the stunt driving charge, the accused received 30-day driver’s licence suspensions and the automobile involved was impounded for 14 days.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

The driver will be scheduled to appear in traffic court at a later date.

“Slow down,” said the OPP.
