SUDBURY -- Some sad news to report from the post-secondary world.
A long-time psychology professor at Sudbury's Laurentian University has died.
The university issued a tweet today that Michael Persinger has passed away at the age of 73.
Persinger had been at the university since 1971 and is best known for his brain research.
Former students, colleagues, and community members showed their shock and appreciation for his work.
Joanne Thiverge and Allie Chown are former students of Persinger.
“I owe him so much. He altered the course of my life and given me a passion for the human brain that I turned into a career. Thank you for everything.” said Thiverge.
“It is rare for a professor to challenge his students and care for their success as much as he did. I will be forever greatful (sic) to have been influenced by him.” said Chown.
“One of Canada's most interesting contributions to the world of science, perhaps best remembered for his God Helmet. RIP Dr. Persinger.” said Mark Gentili.
