SUDBURY -- Long time Callander councillor passes away at 69

Councillor Maurice E. Turgeon died March 3, 2020 at the age of 69  at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

Turgeon served his community for 19 years on council, and was also a member of the Lions Club for 50 years.

“Members of Council, staff and residents are deeply saddened by the terrible news,” said Mayor Robb Noon. “It has been an honour to work with and learn from Maurice over the past 16 years. Maurice had a great sense of humor and was always there to help anyone in time of need. I know I join staff at the Municipality and my colleagues on Council in stating just how much we will miss his energy, and thoughtful input around the Council table. Councillor Turgeon truly made Callander better. He was a champion for our Community.  I extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Councillor Turgeon’s family and loved ones. He will truly be missed by many.”

Turgeon owned Maurice’s Hair Styling in Callander, and recently worked at Carmine’s Barber Shop.

A social gathering will be held at the Callander Legion on Saturday March 14, 2020 from 11 am – 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Callander Lions Club or a Charity of Choice would be gratefully appreciated by his family.
