CTV News has learned that a mining company with an office in North Bay is laying off 19 people.

Epiroc is a Swedish-based company that sells equipment for drilling and rock excavation, rock drilling tools and hydraulic attachments, as well as parts and services.

In a statement, Epiroc’s global production manager Ivo Jans says:

"This layoff is something we are always very careful with. This is just a normal way of business as we adjust to the volumes. It is a fluctuating business we are in."

Epiroc says over 70 employees still work at the northern Ontario plant, and hopes it can eventually bring back many of the workers who have been laid off.
