Laurentian University officials plan to seek help from the City of Greater Sudbury in its efforts to reopen the school’s Olympic-sized swimming pool.

At a meeting Feb. 16, the school's board of governors passed a motion to start talks with the city on creating a joint planning committee.

It would be responsible for creating a plan and funding model for athletic facilities, including the Jeno Tihanyi Swimming Pool.

The board also said it would be open to discussions on the future of the pool as part of its campus renewals.

It was shut down in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and has not reopened.
