Sault Ste. Marie police are asking drivers to avoid the area of Second Line and Great Northern Road.
They say early Tuesday afternoon a large metal coil that was being transported fell off a trailer.
The coil came to rest in that busy intersection and they are working on clearing the area, but are asking drivers to avoid the intersection if possible.
Update:
A transport carrying large, heavy metal coils had one fall off as it was turning a corner at the city's busiest intersection.
The metal coil hit a traffic light pole and stayed put.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Ray Magnan is a Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Sergeant.
"Extremely lucky, this is a very busy intersection, a lot of cars and pedestrians as well. We have a high school down the road, so again, we're very lucky no one was injured here today." said Magnan.
Police are still investigating, but do not know how the coil, which is estimated to weigh about 40,000 pounds, was able to fall off the truck.
Traffic in the area was slow for roughly four hours after the incident.
