SUDBURY – Months of hard work by some high school students in Sudbury has led to a sizable donation made to the Northern Cancer Foundation.
Students gathered on October 25 to celebrate after canvassing for donations through the city.
It was the 24th annual 'Kids Caring for Kids' cancer drive, which began to honour Laura Cotesta, a former student who passed away from cancer in 1996.
This year, the school raised more than $40,000, all of which will stay in the north.
"We get our locations and we head out with our teams and we canvass the city for money and its overall such an amazing experience because we are able to meet people, communicate with people who know about our tradition, because it's been happening for such a long time," said Vanessa Cimino, Lockerby Composite School student.
"These students go out in one night and raise $42,000. They go up to doors of people that they've never met and they believe so much in the cause that they knock on the door and they are willing to talk about our foundation, about our pediatric oncology clinic, and it's not an easy task but they do it with a smile, they do it with grace and passion. They are absolutely incredible," expressed Tannys Laughren, Northern Cancer Foundation.
Over the past 24 years, the drive has raised more than $980,000.
