Kapuskasing drug bust leads four arrests, drugs, handgun, cash seized

A drug raid at a northern Ontario home last week has resulted in the seizure of thousands of suspected drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamines and morphine, along with the arrest of four people, police say.

On June 27 at about 10:30 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Byng Avenue in Kapuskasing.

“During the investigation, four people were arrested, and police seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, lorazepam, diazepam, chlordiazepoxide, clonazepam, methamphetamine, morphine, a .22 calibre starter pistol, a cell phone and $500 in Canadian currency,” said police in a news release.

Police estimated the total street value of the seizure as $18,000.

A 39-year-old Cochrane woman along with two local men ages 33 and 48 and a 38-year-old local woman were each charged with seven counts of drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous per purpose. The 48-year-old also faces two additional charges for failing to comply with a release order.

Three of the accused were released with a promise to appear in court at a later date while the 38-year-old woman was held pending a bail hearing on Friday.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
