Job opportunities in film and TV growing in the North

Share

Careers in the northern Ontario film and TV industry were the focus of information sessions Wednesday in Sudbury.

Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) presented information about entry-level opportunities across a variety of departments in the growing sector in our region.

It also provided information on its workforce programs to support career transitions and development.

“There are many different skills needed -- many lateral skills that people don’t realize that fit into film, whether it be administration, labour positions or creative artistic positions,” said Jodie Wiebe, CION workforce development officer.

“It’s just having them know what it is and the more productions that are coming to (the) North as we see around us things that are going on, the more people are going to be required to work on them.”

The sessions were hosted by Spark Employment Services

“These info sessions are just helping clients to shape their career and see what else they can find,” said Dhwani Bhatia, Spark Employment Services organizational change manager.

CION said it offers digital resources including a hotlist that includes upcoming productions and a crew database that can open doors for emerging crew talent.
