Hwy. 144 in Dowling reopens after fire

Highway 144 has reopened after being closed at Sturgeon Street in the Greater Sudbury community of Dowling due to a fire on Saturday.
Saturday at about 5:20 p.m., the Ministry of Transportation’s Ontario 511 service said that the roadway was closed in both directions.
511 tweeted that the roadway fully reopened shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
“Highway 144 is closed in both directions at Sturgeon Street in Dowling due to a fire,” said Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on ‘X,’ formerly Twitter, shortly before 6 p.m.
“OPP on scene.”
In a message to CTV News on Sunday, Greater Sudbury Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell said it was strictly an electrical fire and there were not injuries reported as a result.
The social media group ‘HWY 144 Chelmsford to Timmins’ had a discussion about the closure on Saturday and member Luc Desbiens posted a photo showing a hydro pole on fire.

Police have not released any details of the severity of the fire, its cause or the extent of any damages.
