SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police says the multi-vehicle crash on Highway 11 between Smooth Rock Falls and Kapuskasing involves an OPP vehicle.
It is the second crash on the same northern Ontario highway in less than 24 hours.
Police say the collision happened west of Smooth Rock Falls around 10:40 a.m. Friday when officers were responding to a disabled tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the road.
According to police, the officers were conducting traffic control when the vehicle they were in was rear-ended by a passenger vehicle. Both officers received non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
A short time later, police say two tractor-trailers were involved in another rear-end collision about 100 meters west of the first crash. Both drivers in that incident were uninjured.
An investigation into the police vehicle collision continues.
The highway remains closed.Travellers should drive with caution and expect traffic delays.
OPP Constable Stephanie Belec says the highway will possibly reopen as soon as the involved vehicles have been towed, depending on weather conditions.
