Homicide investigation underway in North Bay

The North Bay Police Service is currently involved in an active investigation into a homicide which occurred early Saturday morning, said police in a news release.

Just before 2:30 a.m., uniformed members of the police force responded to a call for service in the area of Fraser Street and Worthington Street West in the city of North Bay.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a male victim suffering from serious injuries.

"The victim was transported by ambulance to the North Bay Regional Health Center where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later," said the North Bay Police Service (NBPS), in the release.

"As part of the investigation there is an increased police presence in the area of Fraser Street between Worthington Street West and Second Avenue West."

The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Tristan Ayers of North Bay.

The homicide investigation is continuing under the Criminal Investigation Section of NBPS, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and the Forensic Identification Section, along with other sections.

The investigation closed Fraser Street between Worthington Street West and Second Avenue West as well as First Avenue West between Ferguson Street and Fraser Street to both pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic for several hours.

"At this time there have been no arrests made in relation to this investigation," said police.

"However, based upon the investigation to date it is believed that this was not a random act. As such there is no threat to public safety."
