SUDBURY -- One home is a total loss after a devastating fire Monday on Manitoulin Island.

Volunteer firefighters with the Gore Bay Fire Department got the call just before noon and when they arrived, they found the house on Hall Street totally involved.

There is no word yet on a cause. Fire officials plan on working with an insurance adjuster on Tuesday as part of their ongoing investigation.

It took crew members eight hours to fight the flames. Firefighters from the nearby community of Billings were called in to assist and spell off the initial crew.

One young man was home at the time and managed to make it out safely. Fire Chief Mike Addison says there were no other injuries.

Addison adds it was a very busy day for his team which was dealing with power outages due to the ice storm.

There was also a power line fire earlier in the day.
