SUDBURY -- In the wake of last week's tree lighting in Sault Ste. Marie, a number of holiday decorations, including Santa's sleigh, recently got the boot from courthouse property.
In a statement to media, Mayor Christian Provenzano says it's his understanding that the request to remove the items came from courthouse property management, which is the Ministry of the Attorney General.
That didn't sit well with some people, including the local MPP Ross Romano. He made some calls to Queen's Park, and now says the decorations can be returned.
In an e-mail to Romano, the attorney-general's office said:
"The tree with the decorations (if they are returned) will remain lit for the duration of the holiday season this year and in future years, and the Ministry will continue to work closely with its partners at the court and the city to prevent any similar incidents going forward."
As for those decorations, most were relocated to the front of city hall.
