A vehicle fire involving a lumber truck closed Highway 17 in both directions in Worthington, west of Sudbury, for nearly two hours Wednesday morning, police say.

The closure affected a 10-kilometre stretch of the highway between Fairbanks Lake Road, just west of the community of Whitefish, to Worthington Road in the Beaver Lake area of Nairn Centre.

Ontario Provincial Police are at the scene where a transport trailer hauling lumber caught fire, Greater Sudbury Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell told CTV News in a phone interview.

The transport driver was able to disconnect the trailer where the fire was and move a safe distance away, Oshell said.

Firefighters contained the blaze quickly.

No one was injured in the incident.

OPP will work with the transport company, which is at the scene, to remove the damaged trailer.

The fire began before 7 a.m., 511 Ontario said.
