SAULT STE. MARIE -- Gardening enthusiasts in the Soo were springing over to Sault College for the 13th annual Seedy Saturday.

The event invites gardeners of all experience levels to shop in the marketplace, swap seeds and learn helpful tips through several exhibits and presentations.

"It's just about teaching people and giving people resources and just getting out and sharing a passion for gardening," said Jaana Aspegren, a gardening enthusiast. "We're really a strong community and love to come together."

One exhibit on display was the Forest Heights community garden. It operates from the end of April to October and organizers say it gives people the opportunity to grow, with some help.

"Gardeners love to gab and share," said Lorraine DeFazio of the Horticulture Society. "We're always looking to give advice for how to grow certain things, or the best way to start your garden."

There was also a strong push from vendors for getting the family involved, as well.

"I like to get my hands dirty, you know, because sometimes, I like to hang out in my room, but when I get a chance, I usually hang out with my mom in the garden," said Jaiduce MacMillan.

MacMillan says his favourite thing to grow is strawberries.

"I want to be a strawberry planter. I really like the taste of them," he added.

Central Algoma Secondary School will host a second Seedy Saturday event from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on March 14.
