New Liskeard man charged with attempted murder in shooting

A 29-year-old northern Ontario man is in custody and facing attempted murder and firearms-related charges following an incident in Temiskaming Shores late last week.

The Temiskaming crime unit, North East Region Emergency Response Team and forensic identification services were called in to investigate an incident involving a weapon Nov. 30, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

OPP Const. Siobhan Cristo told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email it happened "near a wooded area at approximately 10 p.m."

There was a heavy police presence near Highway 11 and Bedard Drive in New Liskeard Friday.

As a result, a male suspect from New Liskeard was arrested on Highway 11 in Dymond Township on Dec. 1.

He is charged with attempting to commit murder using a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, careless use of a firearm, mischief endangering life, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of firearms regulation.

The accused is scheduled to reappear in court Dec. 4 in Haileybury. 

Christo said there were no injuries in the incident.
