The Janis Foligno Foundation continues to give generously to cancer research and other local organizations.

It's named after the wife of former NHLer and Sudburian Mike Foligno.

Janis passed away in 2009 from breast cancer.

On Thursday, the foundation handed out $75,000 to five different organizations; all to help eradicate cancer and to help those living with it.

"She would be very proud of where the money is going, how it is being raised and the commitment we made as a family to carry on her name to help our community” said Foligno.

"It will support us in helping with our additional gasoline and food costs,” added Kelly Zinger, Meals On Wheels Sudbury executive director.

“The price of food and price of operating our vehicles has increased immensely, and we are in the business of delivering food to people"

Part of the donation will see $30,000 go towards a Canadian Cancer Society-funded researcher, based out of Toronto.
