The spring melt can pose the risk of flooding.

Although there is not an elevated concern about flooding right now in Greater Sudbury, the Canadian Red Cross is urging people to take steps to prepare, just in case.

The Red Cross says flooding is one of the most common environmental hazards in Canada. However, on average, only 6% of Canadians are aware of the flood risks in their area. The organization wants to change that. With the frequency and severity of disasters are increasing, it says Canadians need to take steps to become better prepared. 

Jennifer Ouellette is a members of the Canadian Red Cross team who has seen first-hand the impact of disasters on people and how vital preparedness is.

No two disasters are alike, and different types of emergencies may require different steps to become better prepared.
