Five people have been displaced and three dogs were killed Wednesday evening in a house fire on Metcalfe Street in North Bay.

Firefighters from all three stations responded at 7 p.m. and were told there may be someone trapped inside.

“They immediately initiated a search to try and provide rescue,” the North Bay Fire said in a news release Thursday.

“Firefighters did locate three dogs during the search and immediately got them out of the home but unfortunately, they had already succumbed to the smoke.”

The other residents of the home were not at home at the time of the fire and were located later in the evening.

“Firefighters worked for hours and finally had the fire extinguished at approximately 10 p.m.,” the release said.

“The home has suffered significant damage as a result of the fire and the family of five will be displaced for a significant period of time. None of our personnel were hurt during firefighting operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation though the cause of the fire is not suspicious.”
