Camera crews have been busy around North Bay and Powassan over the last few weeks.

They have been filming for a new season of a reality television series that airs on Aboriginal People's Television Network called "Hit the Ice."

This season of the show will focus on a women's hockey team, and a local goalie is involved.

Cailen Helznik is a goalie from Nipissing First Nation, and is involved this season’s show.

"It's been a fun time so far. I’m looking forward to getting some exposure out of this and just getting all the feedback from all the coaches and everyone who comes and watches." said Helznik.

The next season of the series follows a First Nation women's hockey team and its 22 players as it prepares for the Beantown Classic tournament in Boston.

This is the first season shot in the North Bay area.

"Over the last 2 years I've been watching it a lot. I had a friend on season 5 and he says it was a good experience. As soon as I got the email saying I was in, I was ready to go and start my own journey." said Helznik.

To help them, they've enlisted Lisa Haley as a coach. She was part of the 2014 Canadian women's hockey team that won Olympic gold.

The main purpose of this camp is to help these young hockey players get scouted.

"We're trying to get every female hockey player the best opportunity they can to play at the next level, whatever that might be, and an opportunity like this for our aboriginal female hockey players is second to none." said Haley.

She says she has full confidence that her group of girls can go all the way.

"Beantown is going to be the icing on the cake for us. We've come together really well over the last two weeks. We're definitely hoping, with all this time to prepare, with the 10 practices we've had together, is going to set us up for a big advantage heading into Beantown." said Haley.

Filming of the tournament preparation was done at the sportsplex in Powassan. The film crew will follow the players down to the United States where they will film during the tournament in Boston that takes place the next two weekends.

The season premiere of the show “Hit the Ice" is in February on APTN .
