Sudbury fire fighters were called to battle a blaze that broke out Thursday morning around 10:30 in the city's Flour Mill area.
A man who had barricaded himself in an apartment was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital.
31 tenants were evacuated from the Jogues Street building and will be out for most of the day. They are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
The fire marshal's office is being asked to investigate the fire.
