SUDBURY -- v>
All open-air burning is now prohibited within the limits of Elliot Lake.
The city's fire department made the announcement on Monday and comes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as it looks to maintain physical distancing.
No flame or burning of any kind is going to be allowed and the city says violators could face a fine of $500.
The city adds no burning permits are going to be issued either during the pandemic.
They warn any person caught burning or setting a fire could be responsible or liable for any costs.
In a news release to the media, they've included some examples like no campfires, no burning in outdoor fireplaces, no burning in outdoor fire pits, no incinerator burning or no slash or brush burning.
The release doesn't say how long the fire ban will remain in place, but it's anticipated that it could last for the duration of the pandemic.
