Fentanyl, crystal meth and stun gun seized in Far North drug raid

A 30-year-old southern Ont. suspect is charged with trafficking in Moosonee after a raid revealed $32,000 drugs, police say.

Officers searched an address on Hutchinson Road in the Far North community May 3 shortly after 10:30 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

"During the investigation, police seized drugs suspected to be fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, amoxicillin, and cannabis," OPP said.

"Also seized was approximately $340 in Canadian currency, a switch blade, a conducted energy weapon/flashlight, 40 caliber ammunition, digital scales, and eleven cell phones."

A second suspect, a 40-year-old local man, was also arrested and charged with possession of opioids and illegal cannabis and an intent to distribute the latter.

The man accused of drug trafficking is from Etobicoke and is also charged with having property obtained by crime, a weapon for a dangerous purpose, illegal cannabis with an intention to distribute it.

Both men were released from custody.

The local man is scheduled to appear in court June 6 while the southern Ontario suspect is scheduled for June 19.

A third person is also under investigation in connection with the drug seizure, police said.

This week, two people were arrested in connection with a stabbing that sent two people in Moosonee to hospital May 11.

One of the suspects in that case is 41-year-old local man while the second accused is a 22-year-old from, Scarborough.

There is no indication the two incidents are connected.
