Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota was in East Ferris on Tuesday to announce $1 million to help fund a new trail link to connect MacPherson Drive Park to the Corbeil Recreation Hub and the Voyageur Cycling Route.

“This trail provides area residents with a great recreational outlet for walking, jogging, cycling and rollerblading,” the community said on social media.

The Voyageur Cycle route is a 645-kilometre route for long-distance cycling that connects 29 communities from Sudbury to Ottawa.

East Ferris is providing $182,000, while other money is being provided by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the Trillium Foundation.

“When complete, the MacPherson Drive Link will add approximately seven kilometres of multi-use paths with trail markers, benches, bike racks, and bicycle repair stations, increasing safety and connectivity for active transportation users in the community,” the federal government said in a news release.

“The project will create a four-season link between Corbeil's outdoor recreation hub and the Trout Lake boat launch and public beach.”

“The all-season trail will provide safe and accessible paths for the community to walk, cycle and roll, snowshoe and more,” Rota said in the release.

“This investment represents our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our communities.”
