Update:

After stopping in at the International Plowing Match, federal New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh hosted a town hall style meeting in Sudbury Tuesday evening.

There was standing-room only in a conference room at the Steelworkers Hall with over 200 people in attendance.

Singh was highlighting the party’s plan to make housing, medications, and everyday living more affordable for Canadians.

"We have seen for too long, governments in Ottawa have made life easier for the people at the very top, the wealthiest. We have got to stop that. By making life easier for the wealthiest, they've made it harder for everyone else. We're in it for you. We're in it for people.

We want the people to know we are going to expand our healthcare, to include medication, build more affordable housing, just lift people up, that’s what we are in it to do," said Singh.

Local NDP candidate Beth Mairs, running in Sudbury, was there to support her leader, make remarks, and to speak with voters.

The NDP candidate for Nickel Belt, Stef Paquette, was unable to attend, however his provincial counterpart, France Gelinas, did.

Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP), is hosting a town hall meeting on affordability in Sudbury Tuesday night.

The event will take place at the Sudbury Steelworkers' Hall on Brady Street from 5:30 – 7 p.m. September 17.

People interested in attending are being asked to RSVP on the party's website.

The party leader will be presenting plans to make life more affordable for Canadians, if elected.

Singh grew up in Scarborough, St. John's, and Windsor after his parents moved to Canada seeking a better life.

He says being bullied at school for standing out made him feel like he didn't belong, but also fueled his passion for justice. Singh studied law in university. He served as an Ontario MPP from 2011 to 2017, and then became the leader of the federal NDP party.

CTV News Northern Ontario will have more from the event.
