Driver rolled truck into ditch, fled scene, northern Ont. police say

A driver involved in a rollover single-vehicle collision near Kapuskasing has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to remain.
Ontario Provincial Police were called at 2:30 a.m. May 18 to respond, along with firefighters.
“Police located a vehicle in the ditch on Fred Flatt Road, north of the Kapuskasing River,” police said in a news release Monday.
“The vehicle showed evidence of a rollover collision. However, police did not locate any persons at the scene.”
An extensive search began for the driver, with units such as OPP Aviation Services and the canine unit called in.
“Shortly after 12:30 p.m., police located the driver in a wooded area on Fred Flatt Road, with no significant injuries,” police said.
“Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.”
The 41-year-old from Timmins is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene, not wearing a seatbelt and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol level above zero.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 17 in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day drivers licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
