Update 2:

Police say the driver of the vehicle that hit a rock cut on Highway 144 near Cartier last week has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Friday, August 23. 

The driver has been identified by police as Wayne Smith.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service.

Sudbury OPP are releasing more details about Tuesday's single-vehicle crash on Highway 144 in Cartier Township, northwest of Greater Sudbury.

They say it happened about 7:45 am on August 20 and that the driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver is a 63-year-old man from the Greater Sudbury community of Garson and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

Traffic was backed up for several hours when the police closed the northbound lane of the highway while officers conducted an investigation of the scene.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a truck crashes into a rock cut on Highway 144, south of Cartier.

Police say it happened Tuesday morning at Crab Lake South.

They say the driver has been airlifted to hospital in critical condition.
