SUDBURY – With the recent cold temperatures and snow, Sudbury's winter clothing drive couldn't come soon enough.

Donations collected throughout the fall are now being distributed, beginning Wednesday at the Southridge Mall, in the city's South End.

There are hundreds of free items available to help keep people of all ages warm this winter.

Organizers say the community response has been amazing.

Derek Cashmore is the regional sales manager for Cooper Equipment Rentals in northern Ontario, the company spearheading the annual donation collection.

"We’ve got well over 17,000 items that have been donated ranging from coats, to boots, to snowsuits, hats, and mitts from all over the City of Greater Sudbury. The need has really stepped up in the last couple of weeks by the weather changing, and the community stepped up," said Cashmore.

Susan Nicholson is the executive director of Our Children, Our Future.

"We are here at the Southridge Mall. We were provided with free space and what we are providing is winter clothing for children, toddlers, youth, moms, and dads. We have socks, winter boots, hats, mitts, everything has been donated by our wonderful community," said Nicholson.

Donations can still be dropped off at Cooper Equipment Rentals on Lorne Street.
