People heading across Canada on rides to raise money or awareness always have to go through Sault Ste. Marie.

The city sees its fair share of these kinds of travellers, and another came through Wednesday morning.

Gordon Paterson was born in Canada and is now living in Scotland. His family has benefited from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada numerous times and he wanted to give back.

His website says his journey is dedicated to the memory of his loved ones:

"This journeyis dedicated to the memory of my mother Ann Paterson and my auntie Helen Klokoff. To my father James Paterson, and close family friend Mike Milaney and all those affected by heart disease and stroke."

Paterson started his journey on the east coast last month and hopes to end up in Vancouver on September first.

"It's a country that I love and it's where I grew up, and it's where my family is and I always keep coming back. I love this country and it will remain part of me forever more." said Paterson.
