Condos proposed for Station Mall in the Sault

Share

A hospitality advisory group tasked with helping to transform Sault Ste. Marie's Station Mall is exploring a sizeable residential development on the site.

The mall is already undergoing a $60 million refit of the former Sears store. Now, StratonHunter Group has revealed plans on its website for a residential development featuring 12 condominium towers.

The group said the plan is in the preliminary stages, but Mayor Matthew Shoemaker is optimistic that having more people living downtown will help with revitalization efforts.

"The proposal to have residential development in the downtown core is a sound one, and is key to our revitalization efforts to our downtown core and our downtown commercial area, to the mall itself," he said.

Shoemaker adds increasing local housing supply could also help address the issue of housing affordability.

Representatives with StratonHunter Group could not be reached for comment.
