The Canadian Cancer Society needs volunteers.

April is “Daffodil Month” and people are needed to sell the colourful pins, canvass neighbourhoods or hold workplace fundraisers in many communities throughout our region.

It's a sure sign of spring. Daffodils.

The Canadian Cancer Society says these flowers raise awareness and money to help change and save lives.

“The daffodil is really a symbol of courage which embraces the Canadian Cancer Society's mission of trying to create a world where no Canadian has to fear cancer.” says Justin Burns from the Canadian Cancer Society.

Sonia Del Missier has been a volunteer for over 25 years.

“So many people have been impacted by it, that as soon as they see the daffodil they will give their donation and at the same time say I have had a mother I have had a sister.” says Del Missier.

The society says volunteers giving a little of their time can make a big difference.

“We just got a call last week from a patient who was going for her last chemo therapy appointment and expressed how grateful she was for the Canadian Cancer Society to be there for her, so she didn't have to worry about arranging rides.” says Burns.

“We have certainly seen the incidents of cancer increase and with that increase comes the need for more volunteers to provide the services that the cancer society is known for.” says Del Missier.

The money raised during “Daffodil Month” helps cancer patients and their families, though life-saving research and support services.
