She was Canada's oldest citizen, who lived out her last 14 years in North Bay.
Ellen "Dolly" Gibb has passed away at the age of 114.
Family members say Gibb passed away suddenly and peacefully Wednesday, June 5, 2019 with her daughter and caregivers by her side.
Since 2016, she was known as Canada's oldest living person, the fifth oldest Canadian of all-time, and is also in the books for being the ninth oldest person in the world.
Dolly was born in Winnipeg in 1905 and spent a good part of her life in Thunder Bay.
She and her 79-year-old daughter, Susan Crozier, had been living together independently up until last spring and then the pair moved into a room at Casselholme together.
Last year, staff at the long-term care home along with Gibb's family held a birthday party for her, and she received congratulations from dignitaries, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
She was married for more than 40 years and had two daughters.
Now, she leaves behind one of her daughters, nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
The Gibb family credits Dolly's long life of 114 years to genetics, diet, regular walks, a love of family, and generosity to others.
