Boil water advisory in Elliot Lake as crews work on water main repair
A water main break on Hillside Drive North in Elliot Lake has put the entire community under a boil water advisory.
“At this time work is progressing to isolate and repair the break,” the city said on its website Thursday afternoon.
“At this time we would like to advise all residents that the boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.”
The advisory includes using water for drinking, brushing your teeth, washing food and drinking from public fountains.
Before using the water, bring to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow to cool before using.
“This boil water advisory will remain in effect until work on the system is complete and microbiological samples confirm the safety of the water,” the city said.
“This work will not affect your water service, but we advise that you open each cold tap, one at a time, and let them run for about 20 seconds each. This should release any air trapped in your water lines.”
If the water is still cloudy or contains grit, continue to run the cold water taps until the water runs clear. It is recommended that you do not use hot water or any appliances until your cold water runs clear to avoid any damage to these items.
Anyone with questions can contact the public works department at 705-915-0357.
