'Armed and dangerous' suspect believed to be hiding in the Sagamok First Nation area

A 29-year-old man is wanted on Manitoulin Island by Anishnaabe police who say the suspect is believed to be carrying a loaded pistol and fled to Sagamok First Nation.

Anishinabek Police Service issued a public safety alert Friday for the Indigenous territory near Massey along the North Shore about Waubnung (Wabi) Shawanda.

"This male is wanted by UCCM Anishnaabe Police for serious offences and may have fled to hide in Sagamok," a social media post said.

"Do not approach. We (urge) anyone with information to call 911 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477."

As of Sunday evening, there has been no update.

CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca reached out to UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service in M'Chigeeng for more information and is awaiting a response.
