SUDBURY -- The area around Cobalt Coleman Public School remains closed, police said Wednesday afternoon, as they investigate a fire that broke out in the former school on Dunning Drive.

Emergency crews were called just after 10 a.m. to respond to the blaze, Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday. Responders include the Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Service, the Cobalt, Temiskaming Shores, Coleman and the Latchford Fire Departments.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall," police said. "The area remains closed and it is unknown when it will re-open."

OPP are advising motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area at Prospect Avenue, between Dunning and Cobalt streets.

Further information will be provided as it becomes available, police said.
