TIMMINS -- A Timmins man in his 80s has tested positive for COVID-19 Friday morning and health officials say he was exposed through an institutional outbreak.
Health officials say the man is a resident at Spruce Hill Lodge, an independent non-profit living facility for seniors in South Porcupine. He is the second resident at the complex to test positive for the virus, with the first announced on Saturday.
The man is just one of the four new cases of the novel coronavirus that have been confirmed Friday morning by the Porcupine Health Unit.
This brings the total number of confirmed positive cases in the service area to 49, including a man in his 30s, a man in his 40s and woman in her 30s who are from outside of the city.
Health officials say as of Thursday, 22 people have recovered from the virus.
This comes after the news on Thursday of a second long-term care home worker testing positive for COVID-19.
As per provincial health guidelines, outbreaks have been declared at both Extendicare Timmins and St. Mary's Garden, where employees have tested positive.
