Alleged impaired driver crashes into police cruiser on Boxing Day
While on general patrol in northwestern Ontario on Boxing Day, an Ontario Provincial Police officer’s vehicle was struck.
Shortly after 8 p.m., a member of the Kenora detachment conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had collided with their cruise in the city’s downtown core.
"OPP didn't need to look very hard for this impaired driver," said police in a related social media post.
"After driving through a stop sign and crashing into the OPP vehicle."
Police said there were "no major injuries."
“Investigation determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol, and an approved screening device test was administered,” said police in a news release Friday.
“The driver failed the test and was arrested and transported to the Kenora Detachment where additional breath testing was completed.”
As a result of the incident, a 21-year-old local man has been charged with driving without a licence and disobeying a stop sign in addition to two impaired driving charges.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23 to answer to the charges.
OPP’s Festive RIDE Campaign runs until Jan. 1.
“Citizens are reminded to do their part during the campaign by never driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs, and never letting anyone else drive if you know or suspect that they have consumed either,” said police.
